Scaling

Scalling means eliminating tartar on the surface of, and in between teeth. It is not to be confused with a cosmetic act. Instead, it consists of a dental treatment aiming to maintain the periodontium (all the tissue surrounding the teeth). The built up tartar is the major cause of teeth loosening and frequently results in halitosis (bad breath).

We strongly recommend to carry out a scaling every year.

At our dental office the scaling is undertaken in two steps : :

First, we use an ultrasonic instrument, vibrating at high frequency, to dislocate the tartar. When needed to perfect the ultrasonic removal, a hand instrument is used. A powerfull suction positioned close to the instrument, will absorbe all water an tartar..

Dans un deuxième temps nous polissons les dents pour leur redonner une surface lisse, propre et confortable. Ce polissage permet également d’éliminer les colorants alimentaires sur les dents (café, thé nicotine…..)

Dans certains cas, on utilise un aéro-polisseur qui projette un sel minéral sous pression pour polir les dents, dans d’autres, on préfère utiliser une brossette rotative avec un produit lustrant.

A la fin du soin, les dents sont à nouveau bien propres et lisses, et la gencive est débarrassée des dépôts de tartre et peut cicatriser proprement.
